Reviving a Lost Art
The Buckeye Collection
Rustic Ohio-Made Baskets©
Everybody knows Aesculus Glabra is Ohio's state tree.
But did you know . . .
the common name "Buckeye" can be traced to native Indians
who thought the tree's seed resembled the eye of a male (buck) deer?
early Ohio settlers used the tree's wood to make
utensils, hats and baskets?
in more recent times, artificial limbs for humans were made
from the tree's strong but light-weight wood?
We are proud to continue where the settlers left off,
with a new collection of baskets made from Ohio Buckeye!
The beige-gray stain color we use is found in oxidized Buckeye burl
(wood with highly figured grain, prized by craftsmen)
which is full of beige, gray and many shades in-between.
